Slow Brewed Chai Tea
This recipe tastes, smells, and feels like India. Your home will be filled with the aromas of the spices and make for a welcoming environment for you, your family, or guests.
What You Need
Slow cooker or crock pot
14 cups of water
25 whole cloves
15 cardomon pods, crushed
3 whole peppercorns
1 teaspoon shaved, dried coconut
3 ounces of ginger, chopped (pinky nail sized nob)
7 teaspoons loose black tea (secured in cheescloth) or 7 teabags of black tea
1 3/4 cups of milk
1 cup of sugar
Gather the cloves, cardomon, pepercorn, coconut and ginger onto a double wrapped cheesecloth. Gather the four corners and tie the string to secure the spices in the cloth like a tea bag.
Add 14 cups of water and the enclosed spices to the slow cooker and cook on low for 8 hours.
Add the tea bags into the slow cooker and let steep for 3-5 minutes.
Remove both the tea bags and the wrapped spices.
Add milk and sugar in and stir. It is recommended to add the sugar in 1/4 cup increments and taste each time to ensure the tea isn't too sweet for your taste.
